Ann Arbor African American Downtown Festival

Saturday June 4th, 2022 - Ann Arbor, Michigan – Charles Collectible and Books LLC participated as a continued supporter and vendor at Ann Arbor, Michigan’s African American Downtown Festival. Residence from Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and beyond came to celebrate the 22 Annual African American Festival. People near and far came to experience foods from around the globe, musical performances, here great stories in the children’s village and support the multiple for profit and nonprofit businesses and organizations throughout Washtenaw County. Festival attendees also heard the smooth sounds of National Recording Artist Glenn Jones who sang several of his greatest hits.

Community organizer and businesswoman Teesha Montague has carried the torch of continuing to educate and celebrate the rich culture and accomplishments of Ann Arbor’s African American Community which was the primary neighborhood for black residence for decades. A commemorative plaque at the corner of 4th and Ann Streets stands marking the heart and soul of Ann Arbor’s Black Community before gentrification changed the area. The highlight of the festival for me was helping a young community organizer acquire resources for the young boys and men which she mentors and tutors in her community of Ypsilanti, Michigan. Mark your calendar for next year as the annual festival takes place the first Saturday in June.
